Robert Oster - Coffee Date

Today’s ink feature is a coffee themed one, but one that fills me with confusion.

(Robert Oster - Coffee Date, swatched on a Col-O-Ring swatch card (design is a Yoseka Stationery stamp).

I was excited to get this ink because a) I love a good brown ink, b) I especially love a warm brown ink, and c) anything coffee themed is very exciting

However - as soon as I swatched the ink I was thoroughly confused. I reeeally tried my best to match the colours in the photos and scans to what it looks like in real life, though I struggled a lot this time. In my opinion, I’d use the Kokuyo, Tomoe River, and the writing sample below as the most colour accurate experiences.

Context now set, what is this ink??? All my time as a barista and relying heavily on caffeine to get me through a work day, I have never had my coffee look this colour. If I were to colour match it to something from a coffee shop, I’d say caramel drizzle on a caramel macchiato. Which, you can order on a coffee date, but then I’d prefer the ink to be named Coffee Date 😅 I’m nit picking, yes, but this really bothered me and set the tone for when I swatched the ink LOL.

Anyways. Colour wise, I don’t think it’s quite in my wheelhouse of colours that I’d return to. It’s not dark enough to be a brown for me, and it’s not orange enough to be something I would return to.

There is shading present, though it’s not extremely prominent in cursive, mostly in printing.

I’m not partial to this ink, but perhaps this may be your cup of… tea.
