The Ferris Wheel Press Carousel Inkwell | First Edition

A photo of the Ferris Wheel Press Carousel inkwell in front of the packaging box, on top of a wooden surface.

I’m so excited to have this little bad boy. I participated in the Ferris Wheel Press Kickstarter for the Carousel Inkwell when it launched (in part as I missed out on the Carriage, but also because I would utilize this for all my inks when painting!) and have been waiting for it since. Well, months later it’s finally in my greedy little goblin hands. Let’s take a look!

Note: As part of getting this by backing it on Kickstarter, the packaging is different from what you may receive by purchasing it elsewhere. I’ve included photos of the special edition packaging that you can peruse though! It’s very gorgeous and fits the aesthetic their fountain pen inks come in.

The inkwell is certainly smaller than I was expecting (though granted, I’m horrible at dimensions and didn’t really look at the listing beforehand, haha). I love the petite form factor though, as it requires less ink to be used to fill it up to a functional level. You simply pop the little glass inkwell on top of the golden tent - which is surprisingly heavy, by the way - and give it a gentle twirl in order to stir the ink.

@paperemm Its finally here!! My @Ferris Wheel Press Carousel Inkwell I backed on kickstarter. Its the perfect size - such a beautiful and functional trinket to have on my desk. #stationery #mydesk #plannercommunity #journalcommunity #fountainpenink #journal #ferriswheelpress #glassdippen #inkwell ♬ Let You Break My Heart Again - Laufey & Philharmonia Orchestra

You can take a peek at the unboxing and a quick <1 minute snippet video to see it spinning and a little use case scenario. I used Ferris Wheel Press The Velvet Ballet in this example. This was my first time using it, and I did use a small pipette to fill the inkwell, as I didn’t want to spill the ink or stain my desk.

In terms of negatives, I’d only say there’s a few if that - there’s a particular way to gently spin the inkwell in order to balance it just right that it doesn’t wobble. The lid also has a rubber gasket lining, however it doesn’t have a snug fit against the glass inkwell, so I won’t be leaving my inks in there for longer than a session or two.

Do you need this gorgeous little trinket? No, of course not. I’ve seen folks use magnets and those magnetic stirrers to beautiful results. This is a pretty expensive inkwell, but it’s such a wonderful addition to my desk and it fills my heart with materialistic joy, lol. I’m really looking forward to using this inkwell when I’m writing with a glass dip pen and shimmery ink, so I don’t have to re-cap and shake every time.
