Pilot Iroshizuku - Take-Sumi

Today we have a surprising fountain pen ink. Something of a first to the blog. It’s a standard black ink! Take-sumi from the ever reliable Pilot Iroshizuku.

Let’s get into it.

I will admit, this is a surprising ink for me. Even before fountain pens, I seldom used black ink (even blue ink) for my main writing pens. I think the mandatory colours for school has always been a downer for me, so I always opted for other colours. Greys and browns were great, and I loved burgundy. So with fountain pens having access to tons of colours with a variation of properties, I was so pumped.

This ink, however, kind of fell into my lap. I was able to buy it secondhand from another pen lover here in Vancouver, thinking I would just have it for swatching and maybe for gifting little bottles for penabling. But honestly, this ink is the bomb.com. It’s so well behaved.

In those large swabs of ink, there is that reddish sheening present. I’ve definitely never seen it in my writing, though I’ve only been using the ink in both of my Sailors, one with a <MF> nib, and the other with a <M> nib.

If you’re looking for a reliable black ink, I’d suggest looking this one up!
